Ursula Mulvihill

Ursula Mulvihill is a Cork native and Director of Champagne Cork. A primary school teacher by profession, she studied Music at Mary Immaculate College of Education (M.I.C.E) as part of her BEd degree. She also trained in classical singing under Bobby Beare at the Cork School of Music, where she was awarded her ALCM and LTCL qualifications.

In 1990, Ursula took on the role of Home–School–Community Liaison Co-ordinator, and the following year met her secondary school counterpart, Clare Hunt. Alongside a strong professional partnership, the two formed a lifelong friendship.

Clare’s discovery of barbershop singing at the AIMS Festival in New Ross—after hearing the quartet Black Lace—led to the founding of Champagne Cork. She encouraged Ursula to join, and Ursula competed with the group for the first time at Feis Maitíú in Cork. Although she was unable to fully commit at that time, Ursula returned a few years later to attend the IABS Convention in Limerick, where the barbershop sound truly captured her heart. She has been deeply involved in barbershop singing ever since.

Following Clare’s retirement in 2007, Ursula took over as Director of Champagne Cork. Under her leadership, the chorus has achieved numerous medal-winning performances.

Ursula previously sang lead with Ireland Unlimited and now sings baritone with Munster Mix. In addition to her barbershop work, she also conducts her local church choir.
